Protesters Descend on Denver

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Hence, we still
have hippies
. My snark is in bold:
DENVER -- A small collection of political activists (hippies)
pounded a homemade sign into the soil of Denver's Civic Center
Park on Wednesday, claiming it for their own the week of the
Democratic National Convention.

"From this point forward, Civic Center Park will be considered the
property of the people, and it will thus be renamed Free City," said
Glenn Spagnuolo, spokesman for Recreate 68, which is coordinating
protest efforts with a variety of activist groups for the Democratic
National Convention week.

"We're here today to formally reject societies and governments that
celebrate greed and consumption," said Spagnuolo. (You mean
societies
that financially sustain you while you spend your
hours protesting stuff.
) "We reject a society that represses its own
members and others and destroys its environment for profit.

"We reject a government that was built upon, and continues to commit,
genocide. (Dude, what the hell are you talking about? Do you
know
the definition of genocide?) And we feel that both parties that
are currently running this country are guilty of the continuation of these
problems." (Oh good, this is a bipartisan protest.)

Spagnuolo has previously said that between 25,000 and 50,000 protesters
will descend (or drive to Denver in their Prius vehicles) on Denver
in time for the convention, Aug. 25-28, and that they will carry out protests
and a wide array of activities throughout the week.
I have the long hair thing going. Should I join in the protest? I already know all the
talking points, "Love and peace." Because this war in Vietnam, I mean Iraq, is so
not right. One thing has probably changed since the '60s. This time around I'm sure
these hippies have better drugs than their mom and dad did.
