I think the idea of a windfall profit tax on oil companies is ridiculous. Apparently,
some people like the idea.
Since we are in the mood of having windfall profit taxes on big businesses we
don't like, perhaps, we should have a windfall tax for the entertainment
business. I think there's a lot of raunchy stuff in movies and television and
they make big bucks. We have television and movie stars making millions
for just a few months of work. We have tabloids making billions for spreading
gossip. That's disgusting! Let's have a windfall tax on anything entertainment!
Perhaps we can take the windfall taxes accrued from entertainment media
and put it into news organizations. Now cable networks, news magazines, and
newspapers don't have to worry about sensationalizing news anymore to make
money since the government is just going to give them some. NBC News won't
have to do anymore "To Catch a Predator" episodes and they can send more
reporters to cover Iraq and Afghanistan (if they still have any more reporters
in the Middle East anymore). Newspapers won't have to cut so many jobs.
Are there any other big businesses you think we should put a windfall tax on?
