In many cases, it sounds better. (To me at least) But then again, I'm a bit older than you. I graduated High School in 1993 and always kept up with the latest music...always paid attention to the top40 charts, but somewhere along 2000 or 2001, I just lost interest. Now I go back and enjoy everything from the early 80s to the late 90s and seem to like it more now than I did back then.
Cool to see and hear that again. The guy (unknown to me when I last saw it) has ended up becoming a TV doctor on Holby City here in the UK. Just another edge to the whole illusion. You're right, though, it does sound so different.
