Virtual Newscast
Want to get your news from a computerized, robotic
sounding voice? No, I'm not talking about Brian Williams.
I'm talking about a new online newscast made by Northwestern
University's Intelligent Information Lab. The program allows
viewers to customize their own newscast from topics the viewer
selected.
It launches October 30 but there's an example of what the
newscast looks like at the News at Seven Web site. I am not
fond of the graphics. Also, I know the trend is to let the consumers
customize and personalize media to suit their specialized tastes.
But shouldn't we be reading and listening to current events that we
aren't particularly interested in anyway? If some people only
received the news they were interested in it might only include the
latest on the saga that is Britney Spears and nothing else. That is not
an informed citizen.

Let's talk about religion, politics, ethics, art, or we can chat about something else. I'm open minded!
