Headlines 11/16/2007: The Mostly Religious Edition

As always religion is a hot topic and today I noticed a plethora of
news headlines that fall under this category. So here are my headlines

Headlines 09/27/2007

I've been a real slacker this week keeping up with the latest
headlines for many reasons but I won't bore. Here are some
political headlines:

Iran sanctions rattle White House hopeful (AFP) - I don't think
we are headed to a war with Iran and I don't think sanctions
is "saber-rattling" like the article suggests.
Dean: Bush wants billions for wars, not for kids' health (AP) - "The
Republican leaders have made their choice. They want to stay in Iraq
and deny our kids health care," Dean said in the party's weekly radio
address.
FEMA apologizes for sham news conference
(ABC News) - We are
living in a public relations world. No journalists needed.
Holocaust survivor Congressman: Europe not as outraged by Auschwitz
as by Gitmo (AP) - "Dutch lawmakers who visited the Guantanamo Bay
military prison this week said they were offended by a testy exchange in
Washington with a senior congressional Democrat."

Headlines 09-24-07

Good news: Iran, US not headed for war (AP) - I am listening to
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speak to the
National Press Club as I write this. He just said that women in Iran are
the freest. He is in huge denial of what is going on in his country.
Military is 'baiting' insurgents in Iraq (MSNBC) - "A Pentagon group
has encouraged some snipers in Iraq to target suspected insurgents
by scattering pieces of "bait," such as detonation cords, plastic explosives
and ammunition, and then killing Iraqis who pick up the items, according
to military court documents."
And the courtship continues (MSNBC) - Does it say something that a
courtship has to happen at all?
Lack of sleep may be deadly (Reuters) - Yeah! I now have my excuse to
sleep 9 hours a day.
Bush predicts Hillary will win Democratic nomination (CNN) - I agree with
his prediction and so do the poll numbers. However, I don't think his general
election prediction is going to happen because of tends like this.

Local mosque shooting

A local mosque here in Corpus Christi was shot at Friday
afternoon. I circled the bullet hole. Here is more on the
story from a local news station.

Headlines 09-06-2007

American girls' suicide rates jumps (AP)- "The suicide rate among preteen and
teenage girls rose to its highest level in a decade, and hanging surpassed
guns as the preferred method, federal health officials reported Thursday."
Grading last night's debate (Time)- McCain gets an 'A-'. Is McCain's campaign
back in full force?
The Trasparent Church(Reuters)?- It is good to see that churches are letting their
congregates know where the money is going. I would like to see a clear
definition of "megachurch." Apparently in this article it is says it is a Protestant
church with a weekly attendance of more than 2,000 people. Two thousand
people gathered to gather worshiping together doesn't sound so 'mega' to me.
I-Phone gets price cut (AP)- I still can't afford it.

Headlines 08/30/2007

Texas governor spares getaway driver (AP)- "Gov. Rick Perry, longtime
head of the nation's busiest death penalty state, spared an inmate
Thursday hours before he was to have been executed for being a
killer's getaway driver."
Boston: The bloggiest city- 'Dem New Englanders and their fancy internet
connections and colleges. And is blogging the best thing to happen to
Philadelphia since the song 'Motownphilly' (just thought I would insert random
reference)?
You're a big kid now- Very interesting interview. I agree with her assessment.
I'm one of those adults who is still trying to 'find themselves,' I just need to
grow up already! I'm getting there:)
Web video aims to be like TV- I've always thought those Youtubers and
video bloggers just wanted a way to get their faces on television. So they've
decided, "Hey, let's just make the internet like television instead." Hence, the
word 'broadcast' on Youtube's slogan.

Katrina: Two Years Later

I'm sorta surprised at the lack of news coverage
from the national news media outlets on two years
to the date when the hurricane hit the Gulf Coast.
CNN.com has a section devoted to the natural disaster
and the devastation it caused and also the rebuilding
that still needs to be done. Then again the network did
a pretty good job covering it from the beginning.

Headlines 08-15-2007

Can one be cool and Republican?- I think I'm living
proof you can be.
Romney still kinda confused about abortion- Is
abortion really such an important issue that candidates
always have to get grilled about it?
"The melting pot" makes some uncomfortable-A study
found that as the diversity within a community rises,
the number of people in that community who vote, volunteer
or give to charity falls.
Obama: 'The Decider' can't be blamed for everything
- It looks
like Sen. Obama has been reading my blog.

Headlines 08-06-07

ATM's in the Church Lobby Yo! - Well, many churches
are diversifying the way they accept donations. Members
can make donations online at my church. Is this just local
churches adjusting to modern money transactions?
Democrats get Kostic- So Hillary and Barack didn't listen
to Bill O'Reilly not to attend this convention? Shocking!
Ok... not really.
Stewart snags high profile interviews on the daily- Forget
getting interviewed by Larry King or Diane Sawyer, let's
make awkward jokes and go on The Daily Show. Yeah!
We will aim for the one's that we cannot reach, young people.
And we shall pick on the young one- Now Sen. McCain is calling
Sen. Obama naive like Sen. Clinton did a few weeks ago. I actually
think Obama's newness to the political world is a plus not a minus.
What say you?

Headlines 07-27-07

Wow! Is it just me or have the past couple of weeks been slow
news weeks. Well here are some headlines:

Young people 'Just Say No' to Republican Party- This is really
not a surprise. Young folk tend to be more progressive and want to
change things and that is the rhetoric the Democratic Party is
dishing out right now. I wonder if they will still vote the same
when they get a big mortgage and have a couple of kids? Just
a thought.
A minimum wage increase to $9.50?- Please let's finally raise
it! Enough already.
Michael Vick sacked by Nike, Reebok-"Nike suspended its lucrative
contract with Michael Vick on Friday, while Reebok took the
unprecedented step of stopping sales of his No. 7 jersey."
Republicans may not attend CNN/Youtube debate- This might
have something to do with my first link. There is no good and
logical reason not to participate in the debate.

Headlines 07-21-07

How is CNN picking the debate questions?- I am pretty sure my
question has been cut already.
India names first female president- Is the U.S. next?
Hispanics participating in higher education in lower rates
- There is
no speculation in the article to why they think this trend is happening.
However, it would be interesting and valuable to evaluate this
disturbing trend.
Giuliani's mayoral record complicated- I love how politicians take
credit for stuff they didn't do.

Headline 07.06.07

Bill Clinton has Chutzpah - "I don't know what Arkansan is for chutzpah,
but this is a gigantic case of it," Tony Snow told reporters today.
However, Hotair.com used the Hebrew word first to described Clinton.
The White House is obviously reading blogs.
Battlefield Youtube- This article is on how web video is changing the
political landscape.
Darwin supported missionary work- Although Charles Darwin was an agnostic,
he was never hostile to religion, according to the article.
Study: Women don't talk more than men- But for some reason it just seems
like we say more words.
